Collaboration and Leadership Reflection
Shared decision making and accountability are of great importance as the leadership respects healthcare provision, and vice versa occurs in the teamwork and delivery of quality healthcare. Interprofessional collaboration enables clinicians in other fields to combine their theoretical experiences and clinical knowledge and eventually contribute to the delivery of safe and holistic care to the patients (Dib & Belrhiti, 2025). The issue of integrated leadership and interpersonal abilities among the nurses is compelled by the complexity of healthcare demands. Transformational leadership is the most appropriate model of leadership that meets my professional requirements. It is also associated with better professional relationships, job satisfaction, and better patient outcomes (Ystaas et al., 2023).
Interdisciplinary Collaboration Experience
It included the information regarding the diagnostic considerations, the plans of functional rehabilitation, the possible interactions of medications, and the information about the nursing regarding wound-care time management, safety, and pain management, provided by the occupational therapist, the neurologist, the pharmacist, and me, respectively. The process was characterized by respectful and solution-centered communication. The team members were very active in their listening and inclusion of feedback in the common care plan. These differences in viewpoints created a combined action plan, and I was stimulated to introduce clinical issues and suggestions. The mutual decision-making process has led to enhanced compliance with the needs of the patient and the development of a sense of shared responsibility and advocacy towards the patient. No process of communication was ineffective, even though there was no experience without challenges.
However, not all the junior members were ready to contribute, and the roles of follow-ups were not distributed in the appropriate manner concerning some of the activities. This led to the delay of therapy and wound dressing. In addition to this, even though the first meeting was successful, the failure to plan the meeting in terms of coordinating the post-meeting implementation led to an uneven implementation. These collaborations could have been addressed in several ways to enhance them. An effective agenda and a written follow-up plan would have guaranteed fewer delays.
Effective vs. Ineffective Leadership
Good leadership is participatory, empowering, communicative, considerate of shared knowledge, and allows shared responsibility. Quite the contrary, bad leadership is top-down; it restricts the participation of the members of a team and is based on the one-sided decision-making process of the superior. The lack of structure and involvement of certain members in the provided collaborative situation were also indicators of poor leadership (Specchia et al., 2021). Transformational leadership, in its turn, based on empowerment and responsibility towards the team, will boost teamwork, encourage professional relations, and foster the best patient outcomes (Ystaas et al., 2023). It was another experience that proved that leadership is not power, but support of different professionals to achieve the same objective, safe and patient-centered care.
Best-Practice Leadership Strategies
A good leader in the nursing practice has embraced trust, collaboration, and free communication. Transformational leadership was also found to boost professional satisfaction, burnout, and patient outcomes (Ystaas et al., 2023). The leaders mentioned can create an environment where nurses will feel that they are appreciated, encouraged, and inspired to work efficiently. The other model developed is the collaborative leadership that is founded on shared ideas, respect, and dialogue in all fields. Research by Silva et al. (2022) suggested that collaborative leadership improves innovation, teamwork, and clinical activity performance.
Best-Practice Interdisciplinary Collaboration Strategies
The interdisciplinary collaboration founded on the best practices is mainly focused on communication, mutual planning, and action. The formal communication procedures, including the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) model, are used to enhance clarity, reduce errors, and efficiently plan the care (Ghosh et al., 2021). There is also a necessity to ensure the establishment of psychological safety, as it will give people the impression that they are not afraid to ask questions, raise concerns, and enhance team learning (Patil et al., 2023). The interdisciplinary planning activities may be conducted regularly, which may be utilized to outline the role of each person, align the objectives, and recognize the contribution of the professional that eventually impacts patient outcomes. Interprofessional education is another component that should inform the future clinician of the communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills in problem-solving (Johnson et al., 2025). In general, the improvement of communication, psychological safety, shared plans, and respect helps to achieve the safety and high-quality of care.
Leadership Style to Develop
I would also like to continue with developing a transformational-collaborative leadership practice as a method of facilitating best-practice strategies. Whenever we are discussing in an interdisciplinary manner, I will be actively trying to put aside all the disciplines to express my opinion and improve my participation. The focus on empowerment, common learning, and psychological safety would help me promote the development of my profession through encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork, improving patient outcomes, and helping colleagues.
Conclusion
The evolution of patient-centered care in the contemporary and complicated healthcare setting is a key to successful teamwork and transformational leadership. By facilitating the process of open communication, psychological safety, respect, and shared responsibility, the nurses will be able to contribute to uniting the interprofessional teams and enhancing the clinical outcomes. The adherence to the transformational-collaborative leadership will promote the growth of professionalism, patient safety, and group cohesion, which will eventually lead to the quality of holistic healthcare provision.
