Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to my presentation on improving student retention and satisfaction in the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program at Aspen University.

Project Description

This project seeks to respond to the challenges experienced in nursing education by implementing change strategies, namely technology enablers that include Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and simulation-based learning technology. Some of our goal areas are to address the fundamental skills, the degree of students’ activity, and the active learning process (Plack et al., 2024). This way, to achieve our goal, we should be able to improve our retention rate as well as the satisfaction level of our LVN students.

Project Rationale

The premise for this project is based on high dropout rates and decreased graduation rates for students in LVN programs, as it impacts the program’s reputation. There is no doubt that the improved quality of learning with new approaches in teaching methods can significantly improve the quality of the learning environment. Furthermore, the current world of healthcare requires that nurses be professionally equipped with practical and clinical skills. By incorporating such technological tools utilized in the workplace like the Electronic Health Records and simulations, our students are ready to meet these needs hence leading to retention and satisfaction in the program.

One more reason to pursue this project is to increase student participation in active learning strategies. These strategies not only motivate students but also enhance a more productive engagement in the learning process. A simulation approach is especially useful for enhancing psychomotor skills and clinical performance and guaranteeing that students are prepared for real practice settings. Moreover, using questionnaires and focus group discussions on multiple occasions in the project enables us to detect difficulties at an early stage and make relevant modifications (Plack et al., 2024). This continuous, cyclical process is important in ensuring that the LVN program remains relevant in its approach and methods and ultimately increases the rates of retention and satisfaction.

Personal Expectations

In general, the expectations that I have for this project are as follows: First I plan on attaining quantifiable results by substantially enhancing the retention and satisfaction levels of LVN students. This will be an obvious sign that the project is on the right track and has been successful. Secondly, they include acquiring new skills, especially in the area of implementing and evaluating educational technologies. I shall be able to develop my professional competencies and be armed for further challenges in nursing education. Lastly, it is my desire to contribute to the general knowledge and practice of nursing education with the aim of enhancing the retention and satisfaction of students in the program. In this way, the knowledge and approaches presented in the paper can support the improvement of nursing education quality.

Professional Expectations

From a professional point of view, I have several demands which I expect from this project. First, I will seek to improve the teaching methods by aligning best practices into the strategies, including Electronic Health Records, and simulation-based learning. This will not only update our curriculums but also improve them in terms of how interested students would be in the subject matter. Second, I believe that such changes will lead to improved student performance as well as enhanced readiness in clinical areas. This will in the long run help the healthcare system to have more competent and confident nurses in their profession. Finally, this work is viewed by me as an important experience for my further career and personal growth. I may be able to get recognition in the field and get promoted to other leadership positions within the organization if I successfully implement such a plan.

Project Goals

The following are the major objectives of this project which are aligned with the three key areas of focus. First, the strategy is to retain learners by cutting down dropout rates among LVN students. This is very important especially to ensure that the program stands and is recognized among the best. Secondly, there is a desire to increase students’ satisfaction with the educational process or to develop a new approach to effective and engaging teaching. Published works have affirmed the need to incorporate technology into the nursing curriculum. Research carried out in this area reveals that the utilization of Electronic Health Records (EHR) enhances students’ interest as well as their grasp of clinical work. Furthermore, the use of simulation as a learning model is also emphasized based on the impact made on the development of psychomotor skills and critical thinking of nursing students (Nnate, et al., 2021). These evidence-based strategies are essential in preventing the theory-practice gap, that is, preparing students for real-life nursing practice. These findings show that incorporating such best practices in our LVN program will help in promoting a more effective learning institution that is more engaging for students.

In the context of enhancing students’ motivation and participation, there is a lot of stress placed on active learning approaches. Approaches like group work, practical exercises, and teaching procedures that involve physically involving the students have been proven to incite the students immensely. Besides, providing feedback mechanisms such as evaluations and focus group discussions helps in creating constant enhancement (Harvey et al., 2020). Such tools enable instructional facilitators to prevent or control occurrences that may disrupt learning, thus enhancing responsiveness in the learning process. About these learning techniques, multiple research works have provided several benefits such as increased student satisfaction and enhanced retention rates. In incorporating these strategies, our program for LVN is expected to implement a credible educational platform.

Literature Analysis – Practical Skills Development

The literature points out that simulation-based practice is an effective learning model for enhancing practical skills among nursing students. Through the use of simulations, real-life situations can be introduced in the learning process enabling students to put their theoretical understanding into practice under the supervision of clinical practice trainers. This method enhances student’s readiness and confidence in managing the duality of professional nursing practice in practice environments (Harvey et al., 2020). Furthermore, incorporating simulation-based learning assists in reconciling what students learn from their books as well as their ability to apply the knowledge in practice institutions once they join their professional practices. These outcomes confirm our usage of simulation exercises in the LVN program to train competent and well-equipped nursing graduates.

Literature Analysis – Continuous Improvement and Evaluation

From the literature review, it is evident that both innovativeness and assessment are crucial in educational programs. Periodical assessments assist in making corrections and improvements that may be deemed necessary in the curriculum to make it effective. Feedback is another key area since feedback information is gathered from both the students and the faculty to make changes accordingly. It fosters a culture of shared and progressive improvement of education in which pedagogical practices are continuously improved based on research findings and feedback (Harvey et al., 2020). Thus, this paper aims to demonstrate that by incorporating recommendations outlined in the literature, our LVN program can continue to remain current, effective in producing high-quality graduates, and popular among students.

Procedure Findings – Student Engagement

The study results revealed that there has been a sharp rise in student participation after starting a new teaching approach. Several of the classes have recorded higher participation levels due to the increased engagement level among the students in terms of contribution to discussions and even practical exercises. Most of the students liked the fact that simulation learning was more of an interactive procedure in their learning process. Some of the students said that they developed more interest and desire to continue with their studies as a result of the simulations since these experiences were easier and more informative. These results point to the fact that our approach to increasing student engagement was helpful to a certain degree.

Procedure Findings – Practical Skills Development

Based on the results of our procedure, there is an improvement in the practical skills of LVN students noted. Overall, the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and the use of the simulation laboratory have resulted in an improvement in psychomotor and clinical skills. From the previous methods used, students have noted that these improvements have helped them be better prepared for real-life nursing duties and experience a rise in confidence and efficiency. The response has been immensely encouraging with patients, physicians, nurses, and other stakeholders expressing high EHR and simulation training satisfaction indices. This study thus points to the effectiveness of including skills-based, real-life activities in our programs so that students are well-prepared for their professional responsibilities.

Procedure Findings – Retention Rates

Because of our innovative methods in teaching, the students in our LVN program have a low rate of dropping out. It can be inferred from this decrease that students are more involved and content with the educational process, thus reducing the chances of withdrawing from the program. We have also established that there is improved program completion, which supports other trends that the initiatives have elicited (McGee, 2020). The results reveal that the use of high-tech instruments, including EHRs and simulations positively impacts learners’ retention levels. These arguments support that our strategy does work in ensuring that students remain interested and focused on their studies to complete their programs.

Procedure Findings – Student Satisfaction

This study reveals that there had been a significant improvement in the scores given by students regarding their level of satisfaction. With the help of technology-enhanced tools and the practices of interaction and learning, the learning process has become more positive. They have expressed that through implementing the concept of classroom management, there have been improved students’ and teacher interactions in the class. Finally, the feedback shows a very positive attitude toward practical teaching and learning methods like simulations and training on electronic health records (Brown, 2024). These methods have not only made learning an effective process, but they also relate to real-life nursing practices. These improvements in the student satisfaction level demonstrate the extent to which the implementation of new teaching methods as a form of innovation has paid off.

Procedure Findings – Continuous Improvement

One of the key components of our project has been the emphasis on the constant improvement process. This has been done through formative assessments and self-reflection practices to determine the viability of the adopted teaching practices. This has helped us modify the curriculum when it has been necessary depending on feedback from the students and the faculty. For instance, where particular difficulties regarding new technologies were noticed, further efforts were made to address such issues (Johnson, 2021). Also, continuous faculty development education has been important in preparing our faculty for the correct usage of the new approaches to instruction. This commitment to continuous improvement has been instrumental in ensuring that the quality and relevance of our program Is not compromised.

Conclusion

It has been found that integrating advanced technologies to support teaching-learning activities in our LVN has had positive impacts on students’ recruitment, satisfaction, and skill acquisition. We have been able to introduce changes and improvements whenever it was needed thanks to the cooperation in our college and the sharing of feedback that make the curriculum always relevant and efficient. In the future, we will continue to build upon the proper implementation of new technologies and determine how people are responding to the program. In conclusion, these measures are geared towards ensuring that our students graduate competent and confident, fully equipped to support the healthcare market.
