Abstract: The Culmination of Scholarship Using Evidence-Based Practice with an Interprofessional Team

The abstract summarizes the most critical points that are required to establish interprofessional team relationships, which lead to the generation of innovation and improvement in quality of care within the healthcare setting. The emphasis of the three assessments is combined in the abstract on the subject of co-occurring post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) among veterans. The first assessment examined the clinical relevance and prevalence of dual diagnosis with regard to the difficulty of fragmented care. The second assessment provided theoretical frameworks, such as general systems theory, to guide the process of the development of interprofessional care models that can be coordinated, adaptive, and evidence-based. The third evaluation identified diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) concepts as the base for the creation of culturally responsive, trauma-driven, and patient-centered collaborative frameworks.

The management of veterans with comorbid PTSD and AUD can be effectively carried out using evidence-based interprofessional intervention with evidence-based strategies, trauma-informed principles, and DEI-based practices. The complex needs of the population are addressed by interdisciplinary teams of physicians, nurses, mental health workers, and social workers. Integrated care in a team-based form has been shown to reduce hospitalization, as well as to provide better outcomes among the veteran population (Germack et al., 2021; Spitzer et al., 2023). Integrated therapies, such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy combined with substance use disorder treatment, demonstrate greater effectiveness than single-modality interventions. (Kline et al., 2021). Interprofessional teams will create innovative, adaptive solutions that will be responsive to the needs of veterans and that will consider the evolving needs of veterans to provide equitable recovery and long-term change of the system led by the transformational leadership and the complex adaptive systems theory.
